I have been bodyboarding for about a month with a board I bought when I was in the 8th grade (about 5 years ago...) for about 50$
It has a solid back, however I am not sure if it has a stringer.

I can do a bottom turn and a roll, however when I try forward spin I can only make it up to the 90-180 degrees and then I lose all my speed and it stops.

I noticed that all my legs are in the water and even when I try to pull them up crossed they are still pretty much in the water and I think that's why I can't complete the forward spin.

Is it a problem with my bodyboard or I just need more to practice ?

I also noticed that my bodyboard bends a little bit sometimes.

Thank you for your help !

Yes, fold your legs up and out of the water to do spins, and transfer your weight slightly to the front/nose of the board to initiate the spin and see it through… As you come around remember to transfer your weight back into the normal riding position.

As for the board bending, you probably do have an older cheap ($50?) spongy board. I’d assume something like that wont be very fast by bodyboarding standards, so maybe it’s time to step up to a stiffer board with less rocker if you want to take things to the next level. Have fun!

If you paid $50 for it brand new, it's a styrofoam core board with no stringer, so yes, no surprise it's flexible. Boards with stringers start around $100 and are much stiffer, but the core material is better too- polyethylene instead of styrofoam.
